So, your having a baby and have no idea what you're really going to need when this new little person arrives. There are so many isles of baby gear and you are feeling completely overwhelmed.
I've so been there and I'm here to help!
A few of my friends are expecting their first babies right now and it's so exciting!
They have been asking me (seasoned mama of three) what my newborn must haves are, so I thought I would write a post about it to help some first time mamas out.
I had my our first child when I was only 19, turning 20 three days later, so I was the first of all our friends and family to have a baby. I had no one to help me choose what would go on my registry and tell me what I really needed and which items would just sit in their boxes never to be opened.
Because although you think its practical to have your little bundle dressed in designer clothes from head to toe- it's not. And when your in zombie mode you do not want to be worrying about fastening what will seem like a million buttons. Your baby will LIVE in sleepers and newborn hats to keep that body warm :)
I wrote a post a couple years ago about my bath time essentials here. The more simple the bath tub the better. I tried the whole spa tub with the first baby and I found it to be more trouble then a help. Since I wrote that post I have switched to using Honest Company bath products.
3. Chemical Free Body Wash
Shampoo and Body Wash
I use the Honest Company Shampoo & Body Wash.
It smells amazing and I don't have to worry about harmful chemicals.
4. Double Electric Breast Pump
Well worth the investment.
The most effective way to pump.

5. Infant Seat or Swing
You will thank me later for this when you can get a load of laundry done :)
6. Pack n Play
These things are AMAZING.
Buy one that transitions from a bassinet to a playpen to save buying a bassinet. These are a life saver for travelling whether it be to grandmas house or in hotels. My son is almost two and still loves sleeping in the play pen when he goes to visit Nona.

8. Receiving Blankets
Carters Receiving Blankets
You will use these to swaddle at first and then later on to wipe of lots of baby spit up :)
I've also used them as a makeshift change pad when I've needed to change a diaper in someones house

9. Diapers & Wipes
You are going to need a lot of these, especially if you plan on having more than one kid.
I've been buying diapers for the past six years!! Buy in the next size up - you will be blown away at how fast your baby goes from newborn to size 1 diapers.

10. Crib , Mattress & Lots of Crib Sheets
Because your baby is going to transition out of the bassinet and be in his/her own room before you know it! This Ikea Crib is only $79 too!! You can't beat that. I bought an Ikea crib back in 2009 and it's still in use with our third baby :)
11. Sofie the Giraffe
Sofie
I don't know what the big deal is about this giraffe but babies & kids love this thing!!
12. Bottles
Even if you plan on breastfeeding it's good to have a couple of bottles at home should you plan on having others help feed the baby. I breast fed all three of my babies for different lengths of time but all three were eventually bottle fed. I think I've tried almost every bottle brand there is but with Luca he would only drink from Life Factory Glass Bottles.
13. Baby Monitor
I used a video monitor with my last two babies because I realised after having our first baby I am super paranoid and like to see what baby is doing at all time's when there that little.
These are my newborn essentials.
What were your must have baby items? I'd love to know :)
