Kids Kringle - Kids Give Back

Can you believe we are only a few days away from December?!

The holiday's are fast approaching and while this is a happy time of year for most, for some people it's a time of worry.

Most kids are asking for toys and clothes for Christmas, but there are also many kids right in our local community that are just hoping for a nice meal to eat.

I believe it is so important to give back any way you can this holiday season.
There are many families in need of food, so lets teach our children to give back and help our local community.

I'm so excited to announce that I've teamed up with the owner of Glama Gal Barrie and local blogger Adriana of Chaos & Caffeine to host a fun holiday event: Kids Kringle.

Bring your kids to Glama Gal Barrie { 21 Commerce Park Drive Unit #21} on November 30th between 5PM - 8PM for a fun evening of SLIME and Manicures

The cost is $5 & a Non Perishable Food item per station.

As local Barrie mamas with TEN kids between us, our hopes  are to bring our community together and inspire kids to help other kids in need this holiday season.

Today, I'm sharing Gift Ideas For Girls.

I didn't target a specific age group for this post but I'd say these gifts are good for girls ages  3 - 10.

Seven Tips For Choosing Family Photo Outfits

It's been a few years since we have done a family photoshoot, so when one of my good friends and amazing photographer let me know that she would be doing mini photoshoots at a local tree farm I had to book a spot for our family.
Sure, we have tons of photos of the kids that we've taken on our iPhones but there's something so special about having them professionally done.
I know that one of the most dreaded parts of arranging family photos can be choosing the outfits, so today I'm sharing seven tips that will make this dreaded process a breeze!

1.
Plan Your Outfits in Advance
I like to choose our outfits well in advance.
I'll lay them out and see how they look together, then put them away safely so they don't get dirty or worn out before the photo shoot.

2.
Mix New Pieces with Pieces You Already Own
Buying all new outfits for a family can be very expensive.
I usually like to buy one new piece per family member and use what we already have at home to fill in.
For this years photo shoot, I purchased us all new sweaters {seen in the photo above}, but we will all be wearing pants, hats, boots etc that we already own.

3.
Pick Pieces that Compliment Each Other Without Being Matchy-Matchy
Being Matchy Matchy is so 1999.
But seriously, in my opinion it can look a little cheesy to all sport the exact same outfits.
If you are buying matching sweaters, try buying in different colours and limiting it to only a couple of people in the photo.
For example, I found the most gorgeous sweaters for the girls that I couldn't pass up, so I bought the same sweater in different colours.
Emma will be wearing a light pink and Audrey will be wearing the same sweater in a nice cream colour.

4.
Keep Location in Mind
It's always important to keep the location of the photoshoot in mind.
If you are planning to shoot in front of a White Barn for instance, you don't want to be wearing white and get lost in the photo.

5.
Be Practical
This is especially important when kids are involved.
Your daughter may beg you to wear her favourite short sleeve dress for the photo shoot, but if the pictures are being taken outside in the middle of December, it's probably not the best idea.
You don't want photos of your daughter shivering in her favourite dress haha

6.
Stick to a Neutral Colour Scheme
Think Greys, Whites, Creams.
You can add in Pops of colour with accessories like boots, hats, jewelry etc.

7.
Say Yes To Texture
You will want to avoid big patterns that will take away from the family itself.
Find clothing in a neutral colour that has nice texture to add some visual interest to the photo.

Girls Room Refresh {Inspo} with Wayfair Canada

Thank you to WayFair for partnering with me on this post.

Do you ever start a home project only to abandon it for months before getting back to it?

We're usually pretty good at starting and finishing projects within a reasonable time frame, but for some reason, this girls room refresh has been in the works for over a year now.

I promised the girls last Christmas that we would do a room refresh for them, started painting shortly after then life got busy and somehow I ended up abandoning the project.
In fact, their room looks like one hot mess right now with one coat of white paint with the older colour still peaking through.

I feel awful that the girls have been living in an unfinished room for so long so I promised them it would be finished by this Christmas {which is quickly approaching - YAY}

Having always lived in a three bedroom home, our girls have always shared a bedroom.
Even though they are sisters, they couldn't be more different in personality and style which is why it was important for me to have their input in this room refresh.

The girls agreed to keep the paint colour neutral so they could add their own personality in the form of toys, books, accessories etc to the room.

For the girls beds we decided to go with these gorgeous white Matheny Panel beds in White with a mid century modern night stand in between.

One of my girls loves a more modern look while the other is very into vintage & thrifty finds so I thought this was a great way to marry the two styles.

Both the girls like pink, so we threw in some pops of the colour by doing a neutral desk with a pink chair, pink bedding and a couple of accent baskets.

I wanted to add some symmetry to the room with matching Art above the girls beds so I asked the girls to think of something they could both agree on.

Back in the summer, we visited a farm with Alpacas and the girls fell in love {so did I}, so they suggested Alpacas above their beds.

I put together the photo above for inspiration for the room and really love how it turned out and can't wait to see it become a reality over the next few weeks!

Gift Guide: Indigo Christmas Faves

Happy Sunday!

Can you believe we are in November already?!

November for me, means the start of the Christmas season!
I'm totally listening to Nat King Cole Christmas songs as I type up this blog post haha

We took the Kids to Chapters yesterday to pick up a new snow globe.
My friend Ana of Blue Bird Kisses posted a picture of her snow globe collection on her Instagram account which inspired me to start a new family tradition of getting a Christmas snow globe each year.

I've had a couple of DMS asking where the Snow Globe I posted was from so I thought I would share in a blog post with a few of my other favourite Christmas items from my favourite store in the whole wide world - Chapters Indigo.

Happy Christmas Shopping :)
