As a busy mom of three, weeknights can be hectic. I often find myself rushing out the door as soon as my husband comes home from a long day at work, to get the kids to their extra curricular activities in time. By the time the activities are over, they are usually starving and running low on patience. The last thing I want to do on busy activity nights is cook a meal and clean up, so I usually choose to stop for takeout. When I stop to grab food after a busy night, the most important thing for me is to find a restaurant that serves locally grown ingredients to ensure my kids are eating the freshest and best quality of food. I know that when by choosing food that come from local farmers, the nutrition and taste can not compare to any other.
My kids are very picky eaters but one of the kids favourite restaurants to visit isSUBWAY® Restaurants, and I am always happy when they choose to stop here for dinner. My husband and I love SUBWAY® Restaurants just as much as the kids and SUBWAY® Restaurants is about the only place the kids actually choose to load up on vegetables. There’s something about the process of choosing all their own toppings and seeing their sub being built right in front of them that makes them excited to eat their veggies. I often grab the kids a footlong sub so that there is enough to have left overs to send in their lunch bags the next day. Up to Four servings of vegetables can be found in a footlong sub, which makes this mama very happy! Our oldest is the pickiest eater of our kids, but when we go to SUBWAY® Restaurants she loves to load her sandwhich up with cucumbers and lettuce, while my two younger children will ask for cucumbers, green peppers and tomato. If only I could find a way to get them to eat this well at home!
Recently, SUBWAY® Restaurants has partnered up with Burnac Produce to bring locally grown produce into Subway Restaurant 1300 Shops in Ontario. I love that by choosing to eat at SUBWAY® Restaurants, we are doing our small part as a family to support our community and local farmers. Buying local means creating jobs and supporting our local economy. It means putting out less emissions from transporting food which contributes to sustainability and environmental responsibility. More importantly, eating local means helping to preserve our valuable farmland for future generations to come! Eating local is also a great opportunity to open up to important conversations with our children. We can teach them about where their food is coming from, and how it affects the environment and our community, which can lead to establishing good eating habits from a young age.
If you are a busy mom like me, and eating local is important to your family for the same reasons it is for mine, stop in at SUBWAY® Restaurants find a store to eat locally fresh.
